I love the energy sensed during walks by the sea in search of pebbles. Seeing and feeling the different shapes and colours empowers me. Each with their own story, naturally sculpted by the environmental experience over a vast period of time. When creating my illustrations I respect the soul and elements of each stone and use them in the work itself to enhance their vividness.
Wood is an incredibly grateful material, every piece holds a unique structure and warmth. It emits a natural light from within, giving the portrayed colours an extra intensity.
A stone is a landscape on it's own. By painting several transparant layers on top of each other, the light shining upon the piece creates it's unique reflection, depth and image.
Puur Goud translated into 'Pure Gold' is a project from renowned nature photographer Guido Sterkendries, founder of ' Battle for Life '. The illustrations compliment the beautiful book and brings the honest testimony of the endangered golden frogs due to consequences of global warming on their habitat.

The " You are You and I am Me " storybooks are written and illustrated by Marijke, she also sings and co-composes the songs with her husband. The stories are created to help kids to believe in themselves. Children need that belief to build up their self-esteem and their self-respect. Well balanced self-esteem is the basis for a strong future. Every animal in our books has his genuine personality and talents that go with it. We want to tell each kid, that he or she is special and unique, even if they are different from others.
