Born in Antwerp on February 2nd, 1954 and was raised in a warm, art minded nest. Father was a neuro-psychiatrist and a briljant classical piano player with a passion for eastern art. Her mother was a poet and an illustrator.
Marijke grew up in a environment where light, color, form and language had a very important place. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Antwerp. Apart from canvas and paper, she draws and paints on natural materials such as stone, wood, bone and shells.
Marijke raised five children and she is a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren.
For her, art is a way to transmit energy. Energy that moves people in a way they can discover and feel the beauty in themselves.
